Indian Idol sees contestants perform Hindi, Punjabi, and commercially-mainstream music which most people have heard of, but Sa Re Ga Ma Pa tries to introduce audiences to music which people should hear but haven’t. We get to hear a lot more regional folk music on ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, but ‘Indian Idol’ focuses more on mainstream Hindi music So, the kind of winner chosen by each of these shows is very different, because someone whose singing seems good enough to us, might not be up to the mark in the eyes of experts. Now, our idea of good and bad music will obviously be different from those of experts and trained musicians. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’s winner depends on the judge’s view point. Indian Idol is a public voting-based show where the masses choose their winner.

Indian Idol is the hunt for a glamorous pop icon who will be a solo artist, someone who releases their own albums. ‘Indian Idol’ is literally about finding an ‘idol’ whereas ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ is purely about music Both shows bring something unique to the table, so those looking for a new singing talent show to watch might want to read on before committing to either. Indian Idol and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa could not be more different those differences justify their individual existence. Not all musical reality shows are made equal, or offer the same thing.
