The original group of singers will not be performing in this second installment. "It will be a wonderful event, but Taylor is flying out to Australia the same night as the Grammys, right after the show, to start her tour," her representative told CNN.
There were Internet rumors circulating Thursday that Swift and Kanye West would be able to join hands and sing together for a charitable cause, but Swift's representative said that wasn't true. One person who will not be there, however, is Taylor Swift. Jones hasn't released the complete list of performers yet, but more information should come after Monday's studio session. Richie co-wrote the original record with Michael Jackson for African famine relief, and the single was a massive success.
All proceeds for the album will go towards Haiti's relief efforts. The recording session will take place on Monday, February 1, in the exact same A&M Records recording studio as the "We Are the World" recording did in 1985. So far, Jones has Wyclef Jean, Rickey Minor, Justin Bieber, Jason Mraz and Lionel Richie on deck for the millennial remix, not to mention Sugarland, Anthony Hamilton and Julianne Hough. Quincy Jones is pulling together another all-star team for a remake of perhaps the most well-known charity song, "We Are the World."
